Wedding Receptions at Home
Sometimes it becomes a daunting task for a couple to choose a wedding reception for their special day. As popular venues tend to get booked pretty fast, it is common to find couples forced to select any available slot. There is a strong likelihood of them not getting the desired reception.
Nevertheless, if you are getting married, there could be no better and more appropriate venue than where you or your parents grew up. Perhaps your parents have a seaside house or your grandmother owns a countryside ancestral home. While these sentimental and nostalgic locations are grand in their own rights, they may not be totally ready to host such a special event as a union of two people in love. In that case, here is a couple of tips to make your home a perfect venue for your special day.
When decorating, keep it low-key, specifically if you have a small- to medium-size home. Use white linen and few coloured accents like fresh cut flowers on green boughs. You may put on arranged candles, fruits, flowers, balloons, but keep them at minimum. A well-manicured lawn is better than gaudy decorations.
A wedding is the best time to share stories, food, and drinks. Decide the type of food you are going to serve, be it finger food or full meal. Since it is an outdoor gathering, select the food that can stay fresh under normal temperature. Position a buffet table with defined exit and entrance to facilitate a smooth flow of diners. Serve food and drinks on fine crockery; you may raid your parents' or grandparents' cupboards or visit discount stores. Have a separate and smaller table for your dessert and wedding cake. You may go for long dining tables for family-style feel or carefully spread out small tables. Cover tables with layered fabrics or decorative runners. Adorn chairs with ribbons and flowers.
Always prepare for a contingency plan in case it rains. Rent party tents or café umbrellas ahead of time to ensure everything and everybody are sheltered during an inclement weather.
Holding your wedding at home is economical and practical because you do not have to pay for the venue. You may even ask relatives to help you prepare food and serve guests for a more cost-effective, yet festive celebration.
